The patch of land on which the Green is located is a tiny remnant of old Grenoside.
A few centuaries ago it was part of Greno Moor which was mostly grass with a few trees and maybe heathland on the higher areas. The villagers would graze their animals here amonst the wild flowers. Later, this common land was divided into fields where farmers grazed their cattle.
In the 1960's , when the Junior school was built down the hill, the area became part of the school grounds. The land was also the location of the Grenoside Library until its demolition in 1996.
Frank Rodgers unveils our topograph on the village green in April 2012.
This was the realisation of an idea Frank had some 20 years earlier finally coming to fruition - to celebrate our magnificent view stretching as far as the Humber Bridge.
